Check out Glide’s picks for the week’s best new music below.

Dirty Three – “Love Changes Everything VI”

Love Changes Everything

Experimental prog-rock provocateurs Dirty Three have returned with some of their most breathtaking yet challenging to date. Love Changes Everything plays like the soundtrack to a film that hasn’t been made yet, a psychedelic journey through searing strings, unpredictable drumming, and stunning ambiance. “Love Changes Everything VI” closes out the album in a cinematic fashion. The swirling drum patterns create a whirlpool of percussion that sucks in woozy guitars and risky yet rewarding violin work.

Hiatus Kaiyote – “How To Meet Yourself”

Love Heart Cheat Code

The highly anticipated new album from psychedelic soul group Hiatus Kaiyote has finally arrived, and the band is challenging the norms of soul music. Love Heart Cheat Code transitions from the deepest corners of psychedelic rock to silky smooth electro-soul as quickly as you can fall in love with the whirling vocal performances. “How To Meet Yourself” is Hiatus Kaiyote’s off-kilter take on cabaret-style balladry. Wonky pianos drive the unpredictable arrangement as a stirring vocal performance puts a bow on this highlight from a stunning LP.

The Felice Brothers – “So Long John”

Valley of Abandoned Songs

The Felice Brothers return with an LP brimming with slow-burning folk tales containing vivid imagery. Valley of Abandoned Songs is a collection of raw emotional explorations set to lo-fi folk bliss as the band pens short stories for each track. “So Long John” tells the story of receiving devastating news and losing control of yourself—murky guitar chords and longing in the vocal performance accent the emotionally palpable songwriting.

Aaron Frazer – “Fly Away”

Into The Blue

Aaron Frazer blends his soulful prowess with a newfound sense of experimentation on his highly anticipated and gratifying sophomore effort. The 11-track effort is a kaleidoscope look at Frazer’s influence as he injects hip-hop and surf-rock into his colorful world of nostalgic soul. “Fly Away” is more on the hip-hop side, with its distant backing vocals evoking the feeling of a sample, but Frazer’s soaring falsetto can turn the grittiest track into a lush field of infectious melodies.

The Folk Implosion – “The Fable and the Fact”

Walk Thru Me

The Folk Implosion triumphantly returns with a new album of alt-folk rock anthems. Walk Thru Me is a chaotically rewarding listen, with moments of the band employing folk-rock tropes to spin them into psychedelic garage rock. “The Fable and the Fact” is a passionate performance with dusty vocals that cut through the smoldering guitar work to deliver captivating songwriting.

Guided By Voices – “Timing Voice”

Strut of Kings

The prolific and ever-changing Guided By Voices have released their first album of the year. After a busy 2023, the Robert Pollard-led group wastes no time creating an album with larger-than-life rifts and calculated risk-taking. “Timing Voice” feels like a victory lap for a band with nothing to prove but much to say. The dense guitar work collides with crashing drums and trance-inducing vocals for a neck-breaking alt-rock performance.

Washed Out – “A Sign”

Notes from a Quiet Life

Welcome to the colorful and danceable pop world of Washed Out as the man behind the project, Ernest Greene, crafts a dreamy new LP. Notes from a Quiet Life makes dance music sound quaint and turns pop balladry into otherworldly outings, creating a mesmerizing tracklist that gets more infectious with each listen. “A Sign” is an electro-pop ballad with touches of disco held together by the high-flying notes of the vocal performance.

Redd Kross – “What’s In It For You?”

Redd Kross

It is finally time for iconic Redd Kross punk-fusion masters Redd Kross to release another album, and fans of all types of rock should be rejoicing. The self-titled effort is sprawling in nature, but the bband’sability to take influences from all over the rock world and fit them into their love of tight song structure makes these 18 tracks feel honed and intentional. “What’s In It For You” is a blazing surf-rock-tinged tune about valuing your time and not trusting the world around you, as backing harmonies add a pop-feel to the blistering tempos.

Wilco – “Annihilation”

Hot Sun Cool Shroud – EP

Wilco releases an expansive six-track collection of polished demos built from tossed-away ideas from their previous LP. The six tracks on Hot Sun Cool Shroud stem from the recording sessions for Cousin, but they touch on many different sonic eras of the band. “Annihilation” sounds like it is from a more experimental phase of Wilco. The complex guitars juxtapose the innocence of frontman Jeff Tweedy’s songwriting for a moving yet hectic performance.

James Blake & Lil Yachty – “Midnight”

Bad Cameo

After months of rumors and mentions of collaborations in interviews, Atlanta-born everyman Lil Yachty teams up with electro-soul ground-breaker James Black for Bad Cameo. The 10-track LP has the duo crafting left-field R&B ballads with an electronic twist as Yachty proves his diversity as a vocalist and Blake crafts eerie and minimal instrumentals. “Midnight” is a dark and unpredictable stand-out with jaw-dropping performances from both artists and an arrangement that ceases to evolve dramatically.

Previous Industries – “Kay Bee”

Service Merchandise

The excitement for the freshly-formed Previous Industries debut album reached a fever pitch as soon as it was announced, and the wait was worth every second. Service Merchandise solidifies the trio of Open Mike Eagle, Video Dave, and Still Rift as one of the most exciting super groups hip-hop has seen in years. “Kay Bee” features rough vocals set against a crooning sample as the trio takes their time delivering a thunderstorm of advanced hip-hop techniques.

Boldly James & Conductor Williams – “The Ol Switcharoo”

Across the Tracks

Two of the most prolific artists in hip-hop combine for an onslaught of jazzy left-field arrangements and vivid raps. Across the Tracks clocks in at just under half an hour, but within that short time, the duo creates magical moments out of gritty drum patterns and whimsically dark samples. “The Ol Switcharoo” has James effortlessly gliding over slowed tempos and subtle keys for a storm cloud of a stand-out from one of the better hip-hop releases of the year.

MJ Lenderman – “She’s Leaving You”

Manning Fireworks

Two years after the release of his breakthrough project, the electro-folksy singer/songwriter MJ Lenderman is gearing up for its follow-up. Manning Fireworks is set to be released on September 6, and along with last year’s “Rudolph” single, the album will also feature the freshly released “She’s Leaving You.” The guitar-driven track centers around longing before the thing you miss has even left as Lenderman pens an emotional portrait against crunchy guitars.

Tycho – “Phantom”

Infinite Health

The illusive and innovative electronic producer Tycho remerges with a brand new album and single. “Phantom” is experimental disco-tech, with the artist creating a groovy instrumental with cascading keys and funky basslines. The latest single comes from Infinite Health, Tycho’s new album, which will be released on August 30.

Denzel Curry & That Mexican OT – “Black Flag Freestyle”

King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2

Denzel Curry continues to prepare us for what is promising to be an explosive, no-nonsense follow-up to his artistically ambitious 2022 album with the new single “Black Flag Freestyle.” Along with the rapid-fire flows of That Mexican OT, Curry navigates a minimal yet dramatic instrumental with nimble rhyme schemes. CCurry’snew album, King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2, is set to be released on July 19.
