Today being Jack White’s 49th birthday, we’re throwing it back 25 years ago to 1999, when The White Stripes were just starting out playing divey venues to mostly sparse audiences. Imagine if you could hop in a time machine and tell that modest audience checking out this relatively unknown 2-piece band playing at the (now demolished) Gold Dollar in Detroit that they’re witnessing what would turn out to be one of the biggest bands to emerge in the 2000s? Chances are, not many folks would have believed you (excellent performance notwithstanding). It’s a trip. Happy birthday to the iconic Jack White, who, needless to say, has come a long way from his humble beginnings 25 years ago.
