“The two most significant influences on this song were Bruce Springsteen and Tyler Childers. I grew up listening to a lot of Springsteen through my dad, and I was captivated by the Nebraska and Born in the USA albums,” says Garrett Hendricks about his new single “Adrift in the American Dream,” that Glide is premiering below.
Hendricks certainly has a way of delivering and presenting a story, much like his two inspirations, who equally sell out stadiums. While Hendricks is still working his way up the club circuit, this Pacific Northwest native is very apt to make thousands of people listen. One doesn’t need to be from the Midwest to tell a truthful story about the American plight—especially during an election year.
Hendricks offers listeners a noble yet gritty voice with just the right amount of honky tonk charm and supercharged Americana. While reflecting his heroes, the song steers within the soulful realms of Bruce Hornsby & the Range, Marty Stuart, and Drive-By Truckers.

“In crafting this song, I wanted to find a similar balance of something that felt anthemic and visceral but also had lyrics that were sort of stark, story-based, and really cut to some hard truths about our world and country,” adds Hendricks.
“I put all of my anxieties about the state of America into this fictional love/coming-of-age story. I had a conversation with a friend where one of us said, “We’re just misfits in the American dream.” I took that and tried to spin a Springsteen-esque song that was both anthemic but unflinching in its content. I had an injury with some complications that hurt me financially, and it showed me just how easy it is in America for one accident or unfortunate scenario like gun violence to erode our chances of achieving what we want in life. Without affordable healthcare or common sense gun control, our American dream can be at the whim of fate. So I took those fears and packaged them into this movie-like story about two young lovers and what they face”
