LISTEN: A Days Wait’s “So Far Along” Blends Infectious Pop with Lush Shoegaze

A Days Wait is essentially the solo vehicle for singer/songwriter Adam Alfano. It is a recording project whose proceeds go to charity. So far, that’s been in support of ALS. Alfano wrote all the songs. Their debut single, “Daylight,” was released in 2020, and since then, the band has been on an unstoppable run. The tiny side project that could have released two EPs and a slew of singles centered around Alfano’s vision and generous tendencies.

A Days Wait has already released five singles in 2024, with “So Far Along” being a hazy stand-out. The shoegaze-style single puts the band in a reflective mood, as the sentimental lyrics are delivered by infectious, pop-leaning melodies. A Days Wait achieved the lushness of shoegaze without needing the dense textures of the arrangement. Rather, the band blended pop tropes for a unique fusion of the genres that is captivating. A Days Wait are sonic chameleons with the ability to inject their poetic approach to music into any genre. On “So Far Along,” they find solace in exploring their past and, in the process, land on a hypnotic sound with thudding drums and soaring melodies.

“I sent Day Wave (Jackson Phillips) a demo that had this really bad power ballad-type chorus…he chilled the vibe and made the original pre-chorus the chorus…that’s when the song came together,” explains Alfano. “I have three young kids, and the song is truly about how fast time goes and how distracted we are much of the time.”
