Manic Muddy Monday: Green Day Initiates Infamous Mud Fight At Woodstock ’94

It was 30 years ago today that Woodstock ‘94 kicked off in Saugerties, NY, so we’ll be paying tribute this week by showcasing some classic performances from that legendary festival. Though not as iconic as the original Woodstock held in 1969, the 1994 incarnation was nothing short of epic, with some truly memorable performances thanks in large part to the notoriously muddy conditions that added a little extra fun to the proceedings. Chief among them was Green Day’s legendary midnight with a crowd of thousands, which you can check out in all its soiled glory below. Also, props to Mike Dirnt who kept playing bass without missing a beat during the entirety of the muddy melee. Unfortunately, he ended up getting tackled by a security guard who mistook him for a fan jumping on stage, which actually led to an emergency orthodontia after the show (#ouch).
