“I had no idea when I wrote this song in 2018 that it would become our band’s anthem,” says singer/bassist Erin Walte of Parker Woodland about their rip-roaring single “The World’s On Fire (and We Still Fall in Love).” Glide is premiering the feisty new single below, a shorter, tighter version (than the 2021 debut single). The song contains the ageless punk swagger of Bikini Kill mixed with the relentless hooks of Blink-182. Their new album There’s No Such Thing as Time (out Sep. 6 via Flak Records) is filled with energetic anthems that hit us with punk exuberance, pop hooks and psychedelic guitars.

“Clearly, I should have known. I’m a former newspaper reporter, so I’m disgusted and heartbroken by fake news and people acting like there are no sources we can rely on anymore. That’s where the lines ‘It’s a hard time to look for hope when the truth can feel like a joke, or worse, they tell you it’s your fault if you trust’ comes from. But I didn’t want to wallow in that feeling. My bandmates and I believe fully in the power of music to change the world. I think of Patti Smith’s ‘People Have the Power,’ ‘Keep Your Eyes on the Prize,’ and all the music of the civil rights movement and modern liberation movements. It was crucial to Parker Woodland to stake our claim that truth, love, and justice will prevail if we work for it. So it’s not just the song title saying that we still fall in love, but it’s the lyric that follows, ‘The world’s on fire and we’re not giving up, no!’ This 2024 version is a bit faster and punchier than the original from our 2021 EP, with a wailing vocal that is twice as long and fierce leading into the final chorus. It’s as if to say we are more committed to this world than ever,” adds Walter about the track.
