It’s becoming almost commonplace for video characters to make the leap from consoles to the big screen. But, it’s still not as common as we’d like! Lara Croft and Sonic the Hedgehog have managed, it, but we think there are a whole lot of video game characters that would be cinematic gold. Whether they’ve captured our hearts with their compelling backstories or captivated us with their dynamic worlds, these are the characters we believe deserve their own films.
Link – The Legend of Zelda
Starting off with a big one, in a small package. There are few video game characters as iconic and cinematic as Link from The Legend of Zelda. With his silent, stoic nature and his eternal quest to save Princess Zelda and the kingdom of Hyrule, Link has been a central figure in one of gaming’s most beloved franchises for decades. How has he not got a film yet?! The world of Hyrule is filled with lush landscapes, mysterious dungeons, and ancient prophecies that would translate perfectly to an epic fantasy adventure film. The combination of Link’s heroic journey and the vast, magical world he navigates makes him an ideal candidate for a full-length film.
A movie adaptation could blend fantasy, action, and emotional storytelling so brilliantly. Think Lord of the Rings with an even healthier dose of magic. Plus, there have been so many iterations of Zelda and Link that this has the potential to be an enormous franchise. Cinema ideas men, if you’re reading this, we’ll be happy with a 5% cut!
Gonzo – Gonzo’s Quest
Any modern online slots catalogue should feature Gonzo in one way or another. Whether it’s in his early days on his quest to find Eldorado, or in his female form as Gonzita, this lovable character is one of the slot world’s best-loved heroes. But what if Gonzo’s adventures made their way to the big screen?
A film based on Gonzo could be a delightful animated adventure. Gonzo is an endearing and slightly goofy conquistador, always on the hunt for treasure, and his pursuit of Eldorado could provide the perfect backdrop for an adventure movie. With a mix of humor, action, and dazzling Mayan temples, Gonzo’s quest could take viewers on a thrilling ride full of hidden treasure and ancient mysteries. His unique charm, along with the vivid visuals from his slot adventures, would create a visually stunning and fun-filled movie experience for all. And if we’re lucky, Gonzita could make an appearance, bringing a fresh dynamic to the treasure-hunting fun.
Samus Aran – Metroid
Who doesn’t love a great sci fi film? Especially one packed with action. To be honest, it seems like everyone does. In fact, with the popularity of sci-fi action films, it’s a wonder Samus Aran from the Metroid series hasn’t already got her own film. This intergalactic bounty hunter is one of gaming’s earliest and most iconic female protagonists, exploring alien planets and battling space pirates whilst looking incredible in the process. A Metroid film could tap into the tension and excitement of Samus’s missions, where she faces off against deadly alien creatures like the parasitic Metroids and the menacing Ridley. And with Samus’s isolated, solitary journey at the forefront, a movie could thoroughly explore her backstory, giving audiences a compelling narrative of resilience, independence, and survival.
Arthur Morgan – Red Dead Redemption 2

Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2 is so well-written that the script-writer’s job is practically done already. This is a character that’s positively built for the big screen. His story is one of redemption, loyalty, and personal growth, all set against the backdrop of the American Wild West. Plus, his quips and comebacks are nothing short of hilarious. Combine this with a game that was widely praised for being highly cinematic, with a vast open world filled with breathtaking landscapes, compelling characters, and emotional depth – and we think you’ve got a recipe for the next great western. His complex personality – torn between his outlaw life and his strong, if a little unusual, moral compass – would make for an unforgettable protagonist. Round up the horses, this is one that needs filming pronto.
