His flair has led him all over, with two national tours under his belt as well as shared stage with legends like Broods, Emma Louise, Vera Blue, Japanese Wallpaper, Asta, Thelma Plum, Bob Moses, Andy Bull, Wafia, and Boo Seeka.
Despite its slow, somber intro, there is something instantly relatable and spellbinding about Dawson’s “More than I Bargained For.” The focus track from his recent double single is brimming with an electro-folk ambiance that builds to an attention-demanding sense of urgency. Not that the tempos ever reach a level of furry, but Dawson is able to slowly build this world that centers around the ever-changing arrangement and his soaring vocals. Each nuanced element, whether the subtle brass that kicks in or the nimble autotune work that enhances the otherworldly atmosphere, adds to Dawson’s poetic songwriting. A cinematic element to “More than I Bargained For” wraps around an arrangement that evolves at its own pace as Dawson delivers a hypnotic vocal performance for an unforgettable take on modern folk fusion.
“’More than I bargained for’ is a song about feelings of apathy and discontent in a relationship; no matter what you try, you always end up in the same place. It’s also about not knowing whether these feelings are a result of something changing within yourself or someone else,” explains Dawson.
