Tedeschi Trucks Band, led by the dynamic duo of Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, delivered a powerhouse performance on their Deuces Wild Tour. The first of three Boston-based concerts, held at the MGM Music Hall on last night, was an unforgettable evening of blues, rock, and soul. The band opened with “Don’t Drift Away” setting the tone for the night. Tedeschi’s soulful vocals and Trucks’ masterful guitar work combined to create a captivating sound. The rhythm section, featuring Kofi Burbridge on bass and J.J. Johnson on drums, provided a solid foundation for the band’s music.

Throughout the set, Tedeschi and Trucks showcased their incredible musicianship. Tedeschi’s voice was full of emotion as she belted out songs like “Anyhow” and “Let Me Get By”. Trucks’ guitar playing was simply breathtaking, with his intricate solos and bluesy riffs. The band’s chemistry was evident as they seamlessly transitioned between songs and improvised together.

A few of the set’s highlights included the band’s cover of Muddy Waters’s “Got My Mojo Workin’,” Bob Dylan’s “Tangled Up in Blue,” and Prince’s “1999.” Though the songs may have been written by others, TTB always manages to make them their own. Trucks’ guitar playing on these songs was particularly impressive, capturing the essence of the original while adding his own unique flair. Tedeschi’s vocals were also on point, adding a touch of soul to the classics.

The band also performed “Fall In”, “All the Love” and “Yes We Will” from their latest album, I Am the Moon. These songs showcased their ability to blend traditional blues with modern rock elements. The album’s title track stood out, with Tedeschi’s powerful vocals and Trucks’ soulful guitar work.

In a moving tribute to John Prine, Tedeschi delivered a poignant “Angel from Montgomery,” paired perfectly with a Grateful Dead cover of “Sugaree.”  The concert concluded with a rousing encore of “I Walked on Golden Splinters” by Dr. John. The band left the audience wanting more with their energetic performance and infectious enthusiasm. Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Deuces Wild Tour is a must-see for fans of blues, rock, and soul music. Their incredible musicianship, captivating stage presence, and soulful sound make their performances a must-see. With two more shows in Boston (and one in Providence, RI), there’s no reason not to try to catch the sonic glory in person.
