The punk world takes a calming breath after the mayhem that occurred in California last night (October 6). This Sunday marked the end of two significant happenings in the punk universe: the final day of the famous punk festival Punk in Drublic and the final performance of the festival’s founders, NOFX. After a prolific career that has now spanned decades, the California-bred punk band has decided to put the project to rest at their own festival named after their seminal 1994 LP. NOFX got the send-off they deserved as they pieced together a career-defining setlist in front of a rowdy crowd at Berth 26 in San Pedro, California, as the guest-filled set attempted to consolidate the impact NOFX has had on music as a whole.
NOFX’s last show ever was filled with covers, guest appearances, and classics from their expansive discography. The band kicked off with “60%” from their 2009 Wolves in Wolves’ Clothing LP, the only time they touched on this project during their 33-song setlist. They then transitioned into “Murder The Government” from their classic So Long & Thanks For All the Shoes album, which received plenty of attention during their final performance. The band also performed “Eat the Meek,” “Falling In Love,” and “Quart in Session” from the 1997 release. The covers started when Rancid’s Tim Armstrong joined NOFX on stage for a performance of Rancid’s “Radio.” The band also covered Minor Threat’s “Straight Edge,” Mark Curry’s “Perfect Government,” and Bad Religion’s “We’re Only Gonna Die,” which was performed with Bad Religion’s Brett Gurewitz and Jay Bentley.
Another notable addition to the setlist came during the encore when NOFX performed “We Did It Our Way,” a new song they debuted during this send-off performance. The final song of the performance came during the six-song encore as the NOFX made their 18-minute anthem “The Decline” the final song they will ever perform. During the night’s final song, famed Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett joined NOFX to help smash a few guitars and properly send off one of the most impactful punk bands ever to do it. You can check out the full setlist and footage from the epic final performance of NOFX below.
