Organized Konfusion has seamlessly integrated into the most underrated groups of all time conversation. The duo of Pharoahe Monch and Prince Po were lightyears ahead of their time when they released their self-titled debut album in 1991, which introduced the duo as rapid-fire spitters who were more interested in exploring the jazzy roots of Hip-hop than indulging in the gritter sound that was emerging at the time. Their widely praised sophomore effort, 1994’s Stress: The Extinction Agenda, would prove their diversity as they dove into darker sonics and more aggressive flows, slowing down their deliveries as if forcing the listener to keep up with their hypnotic wordplay.
The duo’s third and final album, The Equinox, was released in 1997. Organized Konfusion went their separate ways after the release due to frustrations with the promotion and reception of their music. Monch and Prince Po went on to cultivate successful solo careers. For this Golden Age Thursday, we look at what might be one of the last TV appearances from a fully formed Organized Konfusion. It is unclear when this performance aired on BET, but the song the duo performed, “Numbers,” is from that final 1997 release. Their intricate world play can be felt even more deeply in a live setting as their relaxed cadences get the crowd moving while staring, mesmerized by the pure Hip-hop prowess of Pharoahe Monch and Prince Po.
