Last night (October 25), legendary Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour brought his Luck and Strange Tour to the States. The first stop on the U.S. leg landed the icon at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, after a long string of European dates that included six nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall. All of this supports Gilmour’s first solo album in nine years, Luck and Strange, which was released to wide critical acclaim on September 6 of this year. Gilmour’s first show in the States saw the artist piece together a career-defining setlist that touches on classics from Pink Floyd, the new solo material, and a few other solo gems from Gilmour’s storied discography.
The artist kicked things off with “5 A.M.,” “Black Cat,” and the title track from his recently released solo effort. Gilmour would go on to perform a majority of Luck and Strange during his monstrous 24-song setlist. The guitar legend pulled out songs like “Between Two Points,” a Montgolfier Brothers cover that Gilmour flipped into a duet with his daughter Romany. He also performed cuts like “Scattered,” “The Piper’s Call,” and “A Single Spark.” Nine songs from the setlist were from Luck and Strange, and the rest were dedicated to Gilmour’s legacy with Pink Floyd. Gilmour pulled out classics like “The Great Gig In The Sky,” “Time,” and “Wish You Were Here,” bouncing around from albums pre and post-Gilmour. He performed “Sorrow” from A Momentary Lapse of Reason, the first Floyd album with Gilmour, and tunes like “Marooned” from The Division Bell. Gilmour closed out the night with a one-song encore, performing “Comfortably Numb.”
With night one over, Gilmour sets his sights on some of the most legendary venues in the U.S. for the remainder of his stay. Gilmour has three nights at the legendary Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 29, 30, and 31. Gilmour will then head to the East Coast for five nights at Madison Square Garden, with the first string happening on November 4, 5, and 6 and the final two Garden shows landing on November 9 and 10.
