Is there any band more synonymous with Halloween than the Misfits? Granted, there have been plenty of groups over the years that have campy and dark elements (chances you may have seen some of them from this writer recently), but you’d be hard-pressed to top the overtly ghoulish flair pioneered by Glenn Danzig and the Misfits. They practically invented the horror-punk genre, taking cues from bands like The Damned and even Alice Cooper and infusing those campy elements into their distinctly catchy hardcore-punk sound. Granted, it could get a little cheesy at times, but much like the season itself, the sound and style they concocted were undeniably a lot of fun, and the band had the musical chops and the songs to back up their macabre image. Take the below example, for instance, of the band’s promotional video for “Braineaters,” which captures the Misfits’ essence in a delightfully disgusting 1-minute nutshell. Behold the horror(punk):
