Not many people know that Stewart Copeland from The Police was once a lead singer in a punky new-wave band called Klark Kent. It was a fairly short-lived project, mainly to avoid disrupting the career of The Police, but it nonetheless yielded some delightfully weird little gems. Chief among them was “Don’t Care” performed live in this clip from 1978. In order to disguise their identity, the band showed up wearing (kind of disturbing) masks, but because Copeland’s voice couldn’t be heard through his, he ditched it in favor of make-up and shades. It all adds up to a distinctly quirky little jam session from what was essentially a reshuffled lineup of The Police (yes, that’s Sting playing bass here). The more you know. Enjoy:
