While the weather begins to hit new lows, New Music Fridays are reaching new highs. Just when we thought the year would slowly trickle to the bottom of the hourglass, we get an explosive plethora of new music. This week’s Caustic is nothing short of a maze meant to be navigated slowly, taking in the scenery as you’re knee-deep in some experimental jazz or, if you’d prefer, some neck-breaking hard rock. Yes, 2024 has not ended, and some artists don’t fear the rush of holiday travel or family gatherings and trust to have your undivided attention.

Check out Glide’s picks for the week’s best new music below.

Andrew Gabbard – “Again Again”

Ramble & Rave On!

Quickly following up on a terrific LP. 2023’s Cedar Sweetheart, country-fusion mastermind Andrew Gabbard releases the expansive Ramble & Rave On! The 12-song project touches on soaring Brit-pop harmonies, psychedelia, and Gabbard’s signature approach to twangy country tropes. “Again Again” sounds like it is straight out of the 60s; with its lush vocal feel and minimalistic yet impactful arrangement, Gabbard can explore new territories while keeping an eye on his roots.

The Silverlites – “Need To Fly”

Silverlites

The Silverlites include Joseph Arthur, Peter Buck, Barrett Martin, and Rich Robinson. The band’s sprawling self-titled debut, released today, features ambient rock soundscapes anchored to earth by nuanced pop influences as the band introduces themselves as fearless genre-benders. “Need To Fly” is a toe-tapping jam with loose melodies that finds The Silverlites dipping into nostalgic rock tropes and bringing them to modern times via dusty, lo-fi tones and heavenly backing vocals.

St. Vincent – “Se Fue La Luz”

Todos Nacen Gritando

It was only earlier this year, in April, that we received St. Vincent’s All Born Screaming, and the artist is wasting no time giving us more music to dig through. Todos Nacen Gritando is a hypnotic pop piece with St. Vincent venturing into more electronic territories as the artist pens staggering ballads. “Se Fue La Luz” is an urgent yet relaxed stand-out with angelic vocals that fill out the subtle ambiance from the instrumentation.

LINKIN PARK – “Casualty”

From Zero

For their first album in seven years and first studio outing with new vocalist Emily Armstrong, LINKIN PARK returns with the frantic yet honed From Zero. The quick yet impactful 12-song album marks the return of the hard rock icons with an explosive message delivered in a punk-leaning frenzy. “Casualty” features Armstrong’s throat-scratching vocals navigating high-strung tempos with ease, as LINKIN PARK reminds us why their longevity is well-earned.

Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs – “Detroit”

Single

At the buzzer beater for 2024, metal phenoms Pigs (X7) releases an intimidating wall of sound. “Detroit” is the band’s first piece of music since their 2023 LP thrust them into the spotlight, and it seems the newcomers are far from done evolving. “Detroit” is a six-minute bullet train into the depths of the band’s nuanced songwriting and thrashing guitar work as the band takes their time delivering this head-spinning anthem.

zzzahara – “If I Had To Go I Would Leave The Door Closed Half Way”

Spiral Your Way Out

For the past few years, indie rock artist zzzahara has been honing their refreshing spin on the genre, and their new album is shaping up to be a significant sonic breakthrough. Spiral Your Way Out is set to be released on January 10, and “If I Had To Go I Would Leave The Door Closed Half Way” is our latest look at the project. The playful single blends the feel of lush pop with the jangly guitars of loose indie rock as zzzahara’s vocals cascade around infectious tones for a stand-out performance in their early career.

Squid – “Crispy Skin”

Cowards

Post-punk provocateurs Squid return triumphantly with the announcement of their third studio album and a spellbinding lead single. Cowards is set to be released on February 7, and the six-minute sonic odyssey, “Crispy Skin,” is our first preview of the anticipated release. The lead single is an ever-evolving organism that keeps one foot in Squid’s past and another in the threshold of a more expansive sound. What starts as an ode to their previous releases slowly transitions into a looser and more melodic approach, allowing the band to begin preparing fans for the unexpected on Cowards

Sunny War – “Walking Contradiction”

Armageddon In A Summer Dress

Sunny War readies fans for a brand-new album brimming with exciting collaborations, and if the lead single is any hint of what’s to come, we can expect more of the artist’s songwriting prowess. Armageddon In A Summer Dress is set to be released on February 21, and the Steve Ignorant-assisted “Walking Contradiction” is our lead single. The mesmerizing harmonies deliver harsh realities over an imaginative arrangement lined with folksy guitars and lush crescendoes.

Fly Anakin – “YOUGOTME!!”

Single

One of the most prolific and impressive young artists in Hip-hop returns with another example of his nimble flows and how they can sound smooth over any production style. The Quelle Chris-produced “YOUGOTME!!” has Anakin’s dynamic vocals coiling around off-kilter drums to put a bow on what was an MVP year for Fly Anakin.

Superheaven – “Long Gone”

Single

For the first time since 2015, Superheaven has released new music. The band returned with dense, shoegaze-style “Long Gone” earlier this week, with a second single coming on December 10. “Long Gone” is an explosive piece of heavy rock with vocals that crash like waves on the shores of thudding drums and distorted guitars, all bleeding over each other to create a refreshing yet familiar atmosphere.

Joe Armon-Jones & Liam Bailey – “Sorrow”

Single

Ezra Collective member Joe Armon-Jones teams up with vocalist Liam Bailey for a breezy, jazzy bounce on “Sorrow.” The single is set to be part of a three-song project from Armon-Jones, which will be out on December 6. The lead single has Bailey’s satin-lined vocals soaring over Reggae-style tones with swaying drums and juxtaposing animated horn melodies.

Rose City Band – “Seeds of Light”

Sol Y Sombra

The prolific psychedelic country jam band Rose City Band is gearing up for another LP at the top of 2025, and our latest single provides the soothing sonics needed after a long week of work. Sol Y Sombra is set to be released on January 24, and “Seeds of Light” is our second single from the new project. The gentle new single has the band continuing to blur the lines between psychedelia and twangy as dream-like vocals fall like confetti over jovial guitar melodies for a stunning look at an anticipated release.

Heavy Moss – “Treadmills”

Dead Slow

King Gizzard member Lucas Harwood teams up with longtime friends on his new psych-pop outfit Heavy Moss. The band is all set to release their debut album, Dead Slow, on November 22, and the playful “Treadmills” gives us one last peek before the album arrives next Friday. A waltz-style vocal performance skates over plush synths to create a captivating, ethereal sound that will have you sprinting to hear the whole LP upon release.

White Denim – “Look Good” (Feat. Tameca Jones & Jessie Payo)

12

We are inching closer to the release date for White Denim’s highly anticipated new album, and the band has dropped off another single that only keeps the fiery excitement burning. 12 will be yours to listen to on December 6, and the silky grooves of “Look Good” provide another preview of the project. The funk fusion tune has Tameca Jones and Jessie Payo delivering exceptionally impressive verses, while White Denim showcases their natural knack for bringing nostalgic funk tropes to modern times.

Shabaka – “Timepieces” (Feat. billy woods)

Possession – EP

Shabaka’s solo album from earlier this year is one of the best jazz releases of 2024, and the multi-hyphenate is already back with another refreshing take on the genre’s modern scene. His five-song EP Possession will be released on December 6, and the billy woods-assisted “Timepieces” is our first preview of the project. Shabaka’s flutes create a fusion dance with Woods’s writing prowess as the two explore their unique chemistry via off-kilter melodies.
