SONG PREMIERE: Gyasi Serves Up Scorching Rock and Roll Adrenaline Dose On “Cheap High”

Pronounced Jah-see, Gyasi seems in many ways to come from another planet, and being raised in the woods of a West Virginia holler might as well be another planet in this day and age. His parents bought him a guitar at a local flea market when he was six years old and he still hasn’t gotten rid of the fleas, or the guitar. He approaches his music as an all-encompassing art piece, using fashion, storytelling, and his guitar to create a world for his music. Every show is an intense and unpredictable performance with a theatricality that personifies every song, carried by his magnetic persona of the glittery rock star. With thunderous riffs, masterful guitar work, and songs that celebrate self realization with cues from Lou Reed and David Bowie, Gyasi is taking the essence of theatrical rock n roll and adding a new voice to it. Gyasi is a modern rock artist like no other.

Gyasi’s upcoming album Here Comes the Good Part (due out February 7th via Alive Naturalsound Records) is your ultimate rock ’n’ roll power boost. It’s a wild lyrical ride through the swirling colors of those tempting urges for a fleeting thrill.

Today Glide is excited to offer an exclusive premiere of Gyasi’s latest single “Cheap High,” a rock and roll barnburner if ever there was one. Hitting you in the face with a roaring intensity that straddles the line between glam rock and full-throttle, muscular 70s rock, the song sees Gyasi ripping his way through psyched-out guitar solos set to a driving beat. Complementing the fast-paced music is the kind of vocal talent that taps into rock god status, providing you with all the assurance you need that Gyasi is the full package and rock and roll is alive and well as long as he is making it.

Gyasi describes the inspiration and process behind the song:

‘Cheap High’ is a concentrated dose of rock n roll adrenaline. Lyrically it’s a bit of a mind trip through the urges for a passing pleasure. This song’s been kicking around for a while. I originally released it in 2022, but never felt like the recording did it justice so we went back into the studio and basically cut it live on the floor exactly how we do it live with very little overdubs. I feel like we finally captured the energy it deserved.”
