By now, we are all aware of the devastating wildfires that have plagued the Los Angeles area for days. While the natural disaster is terrible, it has created a sense of community that proves the human spirit is stronger than anything imaginable. Amongst the thousands affected by the fires are veterans of the music industry who need this community more than ever. In a string of social media posts, we learned that the brother duo that comprises Dawes were both victims of the Los Angeles fires. During the tragedy, Taylor Goldsmith, one-half of the brother duo that makes up Dawes, lost his home studio and had his house damaged in the fires. Griffin Goldsmith’s house was also lost in the tragedy. With Griffin expecting a child soon, the music community has come together to support Dawes and the other victims of these fires.
In the wake of their unfortunate situation, Dawes continues to find solace in music. The brother duo took over the Jimmy Kimmel Live stage last night (January 13) to support the MusiCares fundraiser to financially support the afflicted. The band, who released their terrific Oh Brother LP in October last year, reached deep into their discography to unearth a love letter to Los Angeles. “Time Spent in Los Angeles” was featured on the band’s 2011 LP, Nothing is Wrong, and the moving ballad is the perfect poem for these times. The brothers put on a stunning performance of the nostalgic ballad during their Kimmel performance, all in support of the recent events. You can watch the full performance below, and a fundraiser is set up directly on the YouTube link. We have also added the personal GoFundMe for the Goldsmiths below.
