St. Vincent, Kendrick Lamar, Sierra Ferrell Win Big at 67th Grammy Awards

Last night (February 2) was the music’s most significant annual night as the industry flocked to Los Angeles for the 67th Grammy Awards. As always, the night was filled with apparent winners, a few groundbreaking moments in music history, and some stellar performances. Like every year, some of the awards did not make it to TV, and some awards caused significant shifts in modern music. Whether your favorites won or not, seeing artists celebrated in a grandiose fashion for the music they craft is a sight to see, so let’s dive into the 2025 Grammy Awards.

The major categories came as no surprise in 2025. Kendrick Lamar swept all five nominations, including Record of The Year and Song of the Year nods for his Drake diss “Not Like Us,” along with Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video. Album of the Year went to Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, beating out the likes of Taylor Swift and marking the first time Beyoncé won the award in her career. The same album won Best Country Album, and the Miley Cyrus-assisted “II Most Wanted” won Best Country Duo/Group Performance. To wrap up the general categories, Chappell Roan won Best New Artist.

The Beatles took home Best Rock Performance with “Now and Then,” while St. Vincent won Best Rock Song for “Broken Man.” The legendary Rolling Stones are still picking up gold with their Hackney Diamonds album, landing Best Rock Album. At the same time, St. Vincent continued to clean up the awards with Best Alternative Music Performance and Best Alternative Music Album.

While Lamar dominated the Hip-hop categories, the 67th Grammys handed out a few well-deserved awards. Doechii won Best Rap Album for her excellent Alligator Bites Never Healed and gave one of the most electrifying performances of the night. Rapsody also took home a trophy for “3,” the Erykah Badu-assisted cut from her Please Don’t Cry LP.

The Americana section was tight this year on paper, but after the trophies were handed out, there was a clear victory. Sierra Ferrell won Best American Roots Performance, Best Americana Performance, Best American Roots Song, and Best Americana Album. Billy Strings took home Best Bluegrass Album, while Gillian Welch and David Rawlings won Best Folk Album for their Woodland album.

Samara Joy had a night in the Jazz categories, taking home Best Jazz Performance for “Twinkle Twinkle Little Me” and Best Jazz Vocal Album for A Joyful Holiday. Béla Fleck and Chick Corea, who released their final album as a duo, won for Best Jazz Instrumental. Meshell Ndegocello’s criminally underrated No More Water: The Gospel Of James Baldwin got some recognition with a win in the Best Alternative Jazz column.

Along with Doechii, there were other fantastic performances from last night’s show. Dawes appeared, joined by Brittany Howard, St. Vincent, and Sheryl Crow, to name a few, for a passionate performance of Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” as a dedication to those affected by the recent wildfires. The Grammys honored the late Quincy Jones with a star-studded and moving tribute. The likes of Stevie Wonder and Janelle Monáe put examples of poetry in motion as they ran through memories and hits that Jones touched throughout his colorful career.

With the dust finally settling after an explosive year of new music, The Grammys put a ribbon on a busy 2024. With the 67th Grammy season coming to a close, the only thing to do now is reflect and dive back into some albums that may have gotten lost in the shuffle if it wasn’t for their esteemed Grammy Nods.
