Horsegirl – “In Twos”
Phonetics On and On
The day has finally arrived: Horsegirl’s sophomore effort, Phonetics On and On, is out for your listening pleasure. The album presents eleven mind-altering pieces of art-pop that position the young band as fearless and daring musicians, unafraid of rearranging their sound into something entirely new. “In Twos” only begins to hint at the subtle psychedelia and soaring harmonies Horsegirl employs on their latest effort. Minimalistic guitars collide with lush, layered vocals, and a poem of longing gives the woozy instrumentation a sentimental edge.
Richard Dawson – “Bullies”
End of the Middle
Richard Dawson’s brand of psychedelic folk has proven to be a consistently evolving entity throughout the artist’s career, and the latest addition to his otherworldly discography is equally if not more daring than the rest. End of the Middle is nine examples of how Dawson balances his expansive, lofty visions and the nimble intimacy for which they’re delivered, creating even more distance between Dawson and his creative peers. “Bullies” features screeching horn sections that give this storytelling tune a left-field feel, while Dawson tells a heartbreaking tale of youthful angst.
The Delines – “Don’t Miss Your Bus Lorraine”
Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom
For their first album together since 2022, The Delines piece together short stories in the form of a soulful country album with plenty of stellar moments. Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom has eleven tracks of relaxed melodies ranging from depressive balladry to psychedelic rock, transitioning between moods like a troubadour would drift from town to town. “Don’t Miss Your Bus Lorraine” puts you in the shoes of a character running away from something that might be too big to avoid, Amy Boone’s smokey vocals sounding as jazz-tinted as ever over Willy Vlautin’s refreshing soul twang.
Westside Gunn – “055” (Feat. Stove God Cooks)
12
On his latest outing and first album of 2025, the prolific rapper Westside Gunn teams up with familiar collaborators for an acid-drenched LP oozing with luxurious flows. 12 has Gunn teaming up with Stove God Cooks and Estee Nack for eleven face-melting examples of supreme chemistry and Hip-hop prowess. “055” features a crooning sample that carries a nearly drumless instrumental, the perfect canvas for Cooks and Gunn’s velvet-lined flows.
Gary Louris – “Living On My Phone”
Dark Country
Gary Louris’s glistening acoustic Americana shines brightly in the shade of his vulnerable songwriting on his latest solo LP, Dark Country. The Jayhawks member captures the intimacy of a long fireside talk with an old friend as he crafts warping examples of his poetic approach to the timelessness of Americana. “Living On My Phone” deals with modern addictions and escapism, as Louris’s vocals are layered to fill the gaps left by the acoustic ambiance of the instrumentation.
Denison Witmer – “Clockmaker”
Anything At All
Veteran folk musician Denison Witmer teams up with the equally iconic Sufjan Stevens for Anything At All, Witmer’s beautifully captivating new LP. The Stevens-produced outing has Witmer navigating blissful acoustics and lush twang alike, with sturdy yet free-flowing arrangements being the perfect backdrop for Witmer’s seasoned vocals. “Clockmaker” takes you on a whimsical journey of one man’s quest to chase his dreams while he wonders what he sacrificed in his pursuits. The tune hints at the magic Stevens and Witmer found on their collaborative LP.
Marshall Allen – “Sonny’s Dance”
New Dawn
Multi-instrumentalist and former Sun Ra collaborator Marshall Allen releases his latest solo endeavor in the form of free-wheeling spiritual jazz. New Dawn proves that the veteran jazz musician is far from done toying with his craft, with these seven tunes leaning on syncopation to stretch the album to forty minutes of mesmerizing experimentation. “Sonny’s Dance” is a circus of a jazz number. Allen’s sax swings from ribbons above bouncy drums, balancing on the tightrope between wonky melodic shifts, a tour de force of Allen’s veteran musicianship.
The Wombats – “Gut-Punch”
Oh! The Ocean
The colorful pop-leaning indie rock of The Wombats is back for the first time in three years, and the band sounds as confident and honed as ever. Oh! The Ocean is twelve glistening examples of The Wombats’ mastery of their sound. Their infectious melodies rattle between post-punk and electronic influences. “Gut-Punch” moves and grooves as the band’s pop tendencies take over for a danceable pop-rock anthem.
Errol Eats Everything – “Beyond Yonder”
Errol Eats Everything
On his self-titled debut, rapper Errol Eats Everything unabashedly dives into the harsh realities of unjust social issues over nostalgic, jazzy instrumentals. The 17-song album introduces Errol as a forward-thinking, thought-provoking writer whose poetic words are delivered with the boom of his baritone voice while 90s-inspired instrumentals slide underneath. “Beyond Yonder” carries an uplifting message of pushing through life’s difficulties and taking advantage of every opportunity. The track features a horn-drenched hook with verses that prove Errol is far from your average songwriter.
Toro Y Moi & Kenny Beats – “Daria”
Single
Coming off the release of his Hole Erth LP, and while currently touring with Panda Bear, Toro Y Moi releases a B-side to his recently released LP. The Kenny Beats-produced “Daria” falls in line with the Hip-hop-tinted indie rock Moi was exploring on his previous release, but with a bit more abstract edge. Off-kilter drums roll under Toro Y Moi’s quaint vocals for a quick yet groovy single from an unpredictable musician.
Beirut – “Guericke’s Unicorn”
A Study of Losses
Lo-fi synth wizard Beirut is returning triumphantly with the announcement of A Study of Losses. Set to be released on April 18, Beirut’s new album is shaping to be their most expansive and daring yet. The warm pitter-patter of “Guericke’s Unicorn” accompanies the album announcement, hinting at the sonic direction frontman Zach Condon aims for. The new single is a bouncy, cloud-like ballad that should have everyone sprinting to mark the release date of A Study of Losses on a calendar.
PUP – “Hallways”
Who Will Look After The Dogs?
Did the atmosphere change a bit? It’s not what you think; the return of punk band PUP is bound to stir up a storm or two upon its presence being felt. The melodic punks have announced their new album, Who Will Look After The Dogs?, will be released on May 2, and “Hallways” is the single that comes with the exciting news. The new single is signature PUP; throat-scratching vocals creep around the corners of frantic punk tempos for an electrifying single from a highly anticipated release.
Yukimi – “Stream of Consciousness” (Feat. Lianne La Havas)
For You
Little Dragon’s Yukimi is gearing up to release her solo debut, and if you weren’t already excited, the latest single should do the trick. For You will be released on March 28 via Ninja Tune, and the Lianne La Havas-assisted “Stream of Consciousness” is our latest look at the LP. The atmospheric ballad leans on ambiance just as much as the intricate melodies, creating an ethereal tune that doubles as a quick vacation from everyday stressors.
Jason Boland & The Stragglers – “Take Me Back to Austin”
The Last Kings of Babylon
For the latest single from Jason Boland & The Stragglers’s debut album, the band pens a soulful love song to a sense of home and the love that comes with it. “Take Me Back to Austin” will land on The Last Kings of Babylon, the band’s first new album since 2021. The latest single captures the longing we all feel after being away from home and loved ones for too long and spins it into a twangy anthem with stunning vocals and swaying melodies.
Flyte – “I’m Not There”
Single
English alt-rock band Flyte release their second new single since their fantastic 2023 self-titled effort. “I’m Not There” is a beautiful acoustic ballad about being somewhere physically and somewhere else mentality, a universal feeling that the band puts into a gorgeous that sways with sentimentality.
