Songs to Sing and Dance To is the debut album by Chicago born LA based musician Tom Henry. Produced by Kai Slater of Sharp Pins and featuring contributions from him on nearly every track, the album includes twelve rock n’ roll songs to sing and dance to–influenced by power pop, garage rock, psych, and folk. Royal Oakie Records is excited to release Songs to Sing and Dance To on June 27th, available worldwide on vinyl, CD, and digital.
The new single from Henry’s upcoming LP, “Art House,” puts you right in the center of a psychedelic trip through the artist’s hypnotic nuances. Immediately upon pressing play, you are thrown into a whirlwind of off-kilter melodies, bouncing synths, and soaring harmonies. You hear Henry employ the frantic nature of punk while morphing those blistering tempos into infectious melodies, giving the tune its unique sonic personality. With every listen, another intricacy of the artist’s approach is revealed, creating a complex yet welcoming listen. It is easy to get lost in the production of “Art House,” but the songwriting takes you on a journey of its own. The artist’s vivid storytelling and use of detailed imagery transports you into a love story rooted in a shared love for obscure cinema. With a new album on the way, Henry preps the listener with an onslaught of his prowess. “Art House” is a jovial tale of simple love stretched across a refreshing, almost psychedelic arrangement that introduces Henry as a forward-thinking artist in modern rock.
“One thing about me is that I love the movies. Going to the movies is one of my favorite date activities, so I thought writing a song about it would be nice,” explains Henry. “It’s a shared experience! Going to the art house feels special to me because you can see some obscure movies that the big movie chains are too scared to show. I’m hoping the tune will convince some folks to head down to their local art house and see what’s playing and have a good time.”
