In honor of the late great Brian James (who passed away last week at 70), we’ll be spotlighting some of his most significant contributions to the world of punk and rock and roll over the years. And without a doubt, his guitar playing on The Damned’s classic debut album Damned Damned Damned (released way back in 1977) stands out as his best and most impactful work. He wrote the first single from that album, the raw and hard-hitting “New Rose”, which still stands as one of the greatest punk-rock rippers of all. Check out this awesome video of James and company performing the track (filmed in the basement of the Hope & Anchor pub in Islington, London) in their punk-rock prime (and don’t forget to play it loud)!
