LISTEN: Frozen Inertia Release Stunning Piece Of Modern Psych-Rock With Hazy “It’s Enrico Pallazzo!!”

Frozen Inertia is a US-based indie, experimental rock band with roots in San Francisco, California, and Akron, Ohio. The leading members are Timothy Graves (baritone guitar, bass, synths, vocals) and Brad Palmer (drums, accordion, keys). Frozen Inertia’s new album Reflectivity, released January 24th, 2025, is an eclectic, experimental mix of musical genres, incorporating elements of jazz, blues, electronic, and classical instruments.

Taken from the band’s latest LP, “It’s Enrico Pallazzo!!” introduces Frozen Inertia as fearless psych-rock provocateurs. Immediately upon pressing play, you are hypnotized by the hazy, swaying vocals and how they appear out of the mist created by the jazzy drum patterns and swinging horn melodies. The mesmerizing performance is infectious psychedelia at its finest, but this is far more than a nod to the nostalgia of exploring this territory. Frozen Inertia tackles tropes from the genre with an open mind, allowing their lofty visions for the genre to become palpable and bring the lo-fi warmth of the past to modern times. The hectic yet soothing chorus creates dense textures juxtaposing the smooth verses, creating a whirlwind of enticing sonic textures that jump out of the speakers and perform an interpretive dance. Frozen Inertia crafted a mystifying piece of indie rock with “It’s Enrico Pallazzo!!” The intro to their latest album is modern psych-rock gold that introduces the band as diehard individualists whose fearless creativity is only beginning to blossom.

“On ‘It’s Enrico Pallazzo!!’ there’s a bit of the band Morphine, Twin Peaks, and film noir all smashed together,” explains the band. “São Paulo-based musician Lucas Sales contributed that out-of-this-world baritone sax part. I asked him to go crazy on the chorus, and he knocked it out of the park.”
