Bristol’s (UK) Dreamwave has been making a name for their energetic and unpredictable live shows, having recently sold out various venues across the UK. Released via Velvet Echoes Records in May 2024, the band’s debut EP, Dreamwave and the Mindcave received high praise across radio, online platforms, and print media. The band returned in late 2024 with its latest single, “Polystyrene Irene,” which expands on their exploration into Psych and Garage Rock and carries through their DIY ethos. Dreamwave is set to release their new EP, Moondogs, on April 25.
Ahead of their upcoming EP, Dreamwave releases the hazy and mesmerizing single “Clad Kings.” The band’s new single is a stunning piece of modern psych-rock that brings jovial energy and childlike wonder to the band’s experimentation. The band’s love for left-field production choices becomes palpable on “Clad Kings,” but there is a melodic anchor for every sonic risk to keep the space-aged ballad in our atmosphere. While it is easy to get lost in plush textures, distorted crescendos, and psychedelic atmosphere, Dreamwave’s songwriting adds an earthly layer to the single. The lyrics detail a heartbreaking poem about not recognizing someone you once held close to your heart and the longing for a return to that normalcy. On their new single, Dreamwave’s fearless approach to psych-rock gets a sentimental touch. “Clad Kings” is a passionate, poetic, and infectious listen that positions the young band as a refreshing addition to the modern psych-rock pantheon.
