Continuing our spotlight on Coachella’s glory days this week, if there was one year in particular when it felt like the festival made the big leap from the up-and-coming event that it was in the early 2000s to the world-renowned premier attraction it became, it was probably 2004. In addition to expanding the lineup to include more than 80 acts, it was also the first year the festival completely sold out, thanks mainly to headliners like The Cure, the Pixies (who reunited that year), and of course, Radiohead, who particularly helped put the festival over the top according to Coachella co-founder Paul Tollett.
Check out this fantastic performance of “Planet Telex” from their epic set that year, and it’s easy to see why. The band is in top form here, but Jonny Greenwood’s guitar-playing really steals the show (both the intro and outro are sublime). Dig it:
