Jeremy & The Harlequins was founded in the summer of 2013 when Jeremy Fury sought a new creative direction. The band’s debut album, American Dreamer, was recorded in Detroit, Michigan, blending elements of classic 1950s and 1960s rock and roll with modern sensibilities. The band consists of Fury on vocals and guitar, Craig Bonich and Patrick Meyer on guitar, Stevie Fury on drums, and Nathan Cogan Post on bass. Since their 2013 debut, the band has released three albums, with 2022’s ABRA CaDaBRA being the latest.
Since the start of 2025, Jeremy & The Harlequins have been relentlessly releasing singles that showcase their wide sonic range, and “Cowboy From New York” introduces the band as imaginative storytellers. The whimsical Americana ballad reimagines the traditions of folk storytelling by implementing Fury’s personal journey and modern love stories. The single follows the character Lefty as he makes his way through the country in search of a sense of home, and Fury and the band beautifully portray the nuances of a man. By drawing on their own experiences, the band was able to craft a main character with a touch of relatability, a means to connect the listener with the band’s refreshing approach to folksy storytelling. Jeremy & The Harlequins pick up the torch of storytelling traditions with a beautifully executed piece of Americana, featuring captivating songwriting and passionate yet relaxed melodies.
“I was inspired by the cowboy balladry of Townes Van Zandt’s classic ‘Poncho and Lefty.’ With ‘Cowboy From New York,’ I wanted to pick up where that story left off, imagining Lefty leaving Ohio for the Big Apple and becoming a cowboy rocker,” explains Fury. “There are pieces of my own story in there too, being from Ohio myself, but the real ‘hook’ is the tale of transformation—what happened to Lefty after he crossed state lines?”
