Tuesday’s Gone: The Stooges’ Firing Out “TV Eye” Live Cincinnati 1970 Never Gets Old

Continuing our tribute to Iggy Pop this week to help celebrate his 78th birthday, there’s a reason why he earned the reputation as the “Godfather of Punk”, and his original band (The Stooges) had a lot to do with that. Granted, it could be argued that his performances as a solo artist in the mid/late 70s had more manic “punk” energy to them, sure, but in terms of pure, unbridled raw power (pun intended), and sonic aggression, The Stooges really set the standard on that front in the early 70s. Case in point is this remarkable footage of the band performing “TV Eye” live from Crosley Field in Cincinnati way back in 1970. The band’s abrasive style of music, coupled with Iggy’s wild-eyed intensity must have seemed truly radical to people hearing it for the first time back then, which makes this performance all the more awesome to behold.
