Natan AK is a Montreal-based singer and multi-instrumentalist whose sound fuses indie rock with the atmospheric textures of shoegaze and modern experimental influences. Inspired by artists like Alex G, Porches, and King Krule, as well as the raw energy of 1970s New York City punk bands like Television, Natan AK creates a sound that is both emotionally distinct and sonically immersive.
With a moody sway and keen perception, AK pens a poignant indie rock ballad in the form of “Yellow Light.” The pop-leaning, yet grimy single takes you on a wild ride through AK’s lens as he pens stunning imagery that places the listener right in the artist’s shoes. The lyrics are written as potent poetry that brings AK’s world to life through touching love letters and heartbreaking realizations of change. The way the artist writes on “Yellow Light” toes the line between deeply personal and vague vulnerability, leaving just enough room for the listener to envision themselves in the story. While the songwriting is beautifully intense, the instrumentation creates a world of colors to get lost in. The chorus is explosive, featuring hard-hitting drums and infectious energy, while the sweetly sung verses lean towards more subdued territory. “Yellow Light” introduces AK as an empathetic songwriter with the ability to blend subtle pop tendencies with downtrodden indie rock, creating the perfect canvas for his touching songwriting.
“‘Yellow Light’ is really just describing the people and spaces I’ve observed in my early twenties in Montreal, and the kind of shared emotions I’ve experienced within the city/scene as a whole,” explains AK. “The first verse and chorus speak to this directly, and the second half of the song speaks more to my own coming of age in this environment relative to who I thought I would become when I was younger.”
