It’s been a minute since anybody has heard much from the Meat Puppets. Indeed, not only has it been a good 6 years since they released their last album Dusty Notes, but the band has also been absent from the touring circuit ever sense they caught a nasty case of COVID back in 2022. The virus apparently hit Curt Kirkwood particularly hard, but whatever the case for their extended hiatus of late, suffice to say the Meat Puppets have truly been missed these past few years.
So, to help fill the void until the band (hopefully) starts touring again, this week we’ll be showcasing some classic old-school performances from their glory years. Granted, we’re not entirely sure if today’s Manic Monday selection would qualify as the band’s “glory years”, as it harkens back to the very infancy of the Meat Puppets when they were essentially a grunting psychedelic-hardcore punk band. But if you look beneath the surface, there was actually a lot of budding brilliance going on here, although it’s admittedly a little hard to look past the Kirkwood brothers’ belligerent (not to mention kind of hilarious) vocals here. Pretty entertaining, nonetheless. Behold the baby-faced Meat Puppets in all their manic glory:
