LISTEN: Dread Spectre Council Powers Through Different Moods On Explosive “Hooves & Cloves”

Dread Spectre Council is Kenneth Amundsen’s solitary cult and catharsis. Amundsen hails from a small town called Nittedal, in Norway, and is connected to projects like Izakaya Heartbeat, Mindy Misty, Le Corbeau, and Go-Go Gorilla. From this solo project, there will be several singles released through 2025, eventually comprising the debut album.

“Hooves & Cloves,” the latest single from DSC, is a warped, chugging example of pure artistic freedom. The song plays like a purging of emotions, with Amundensen’s eerie, distant vocals cutting through a twisting arrangement that features explosive, distorted guitars, crashing drums, and the crunchy textures created when all these things are combined. What starts as a slow-burning, drum-driven, ballad-like tune quickly shifts into a moody, anthematic piece of indie rock that blurs the lines between subgenres and eras. Therein lies that outpouring of emotions. The way Amundsen is able to explore all of these moods and tones showcases his prowess as an artist, but more so as a songwriter, as there is a hint of poetry in every move made on “Hooves and Cloves.”
