Todd Snider, one of Americana’s greatest songwriters, died at the age of 59 following complications from walking pneumonia. A storyteller and sharp-eyed satirist who carved out a uniquely beloved place in the roots-music world, Snider was revered by his peers and was set to play a theater tour in support of his new album High, Lonesome and Then Some released last month. He came up in the ’90s on the fringes of the alt-country boom, but he’s always been too funny, too philosophical, and too unpindownable to fit neatly into any scene.
