Abes Bones is a Rock ‘N Roll band (and potential Orgone Energy Accumulator) from Tucson, Arizona. Their sound emanates from a crystal ball in which the two titans of Abraham Lincoln – Patriot, Wrestling Champion, Mental Health Advocate – and Abraham – 11th descendant of Noah, Patriarch, Social Media Influencer – have been imprisoned through esoteric magic. Abes Bones blends a songwriting influence in the great American Folk Tradition in the line of Bob Dylan, Ernest Tubb, and The Band, alongside a diverse yet consistent modern sonic melange, harnessing bits and pieces from Glam, Punk, and Blues, entrained with a DIY ethos. Their new album, ATLAS, was released on April 3.
“A Pair of Vintage Levi’s Jeans,” a highlight from the band’s recently released LP, is a proper, jovial introduction to this band’s singularity. By approaching every second of this song with fearlessness and employing an artsy approach to contemporary folk, Abes Bones immediately stands out in a burgeoning scene that begs for this level of experimentation. The vivid imagery injected into the lyrics of this tone dances through the listener’s head as they try to predict where this colorful performance is heading next. “A Pair of Vintage Levi’s Jeans” combines nostalgic honky tonk infectiousness with heady melodies, creating a jagged atmosphere that presents as undeniably smooth and warm. There is a welcoming, simplistic nature to this stand-out tune from Abes Bones’ latest that lingers in the room long after the song ends, and is only a slice of the magic contained on ATLAS.
