BLUESTEM is a band based in Vancouver, BC. A five-piece band with 4 members from Manitoba that moved out west, bringing a fusion of alternative rock, indie rock, and post hardcore. Heavy, swampy, and sweet. In 2023, BLUESTEM released Endlessly, their debut EP that introduced the space-aged density this band seems to thrive in. The 4-song SHACK arrived a few short months later, a project that saw the band turn up the tempos for a blistering, immersive set of songs.
With a steady release of singles since then, the band continues their 2026 with the release of “Sore Eyes.” Marking BLUESTEM’s second single of the year, following “Steak Pie,” this latest single is yet another chapter of the sonic evolution of this young band. Drunken guitar riffs stumble through the haze of listlessness stirred up by the equally sumblebum-esque presence of the vocal melodies, two lost souls bumping into each other on a dimly lit street, both looking for answers the other can’t provide. “Sore Eyes” captures the awful feeling of waking up directionless, straining to make sense of it all for every last moment of emotional head-spinning, as even this hurt is better than numbness. “Sore Eyes” finds the band retreating into these feelings, even as the single is empathetic and palpable. BLUESTEM is an exhilarating addition to contemporary rock, and their latest single cements this sentiment through refreshing songwriting and immersive textures.
