LISTEN: Youth Valley’s “pills” Is Blistering Shoegaze With Palpable Melodies

Formed in 2019 in Athens, GR, Youth Valley blends post-punk with dreamy pop and shoegaze, pairing fuzzy walls of sound and reverb-soaked guitars with ambient, fading vocals to create a nostalgic, bittersweet atmosphere. Youth Valley debuted with a self-titled 3-track EP (2020) featuring the breakout single “Young Sad Lovers,” later issued as a limited 7″ by Make Me Happy Records and aired on Steve Lamacq’s BBC Radio 6 Music show. They have since performed at major events, including the Athens Release Festival (opening for Bauhaus), Syd Sessions, and the Death Disco Open Air Festival, alongside acts such as Lebanon Hanover, VNV Nation, and Sad Lovers & Giants.

They presented their debut album, Lullabies For Adults, funded by fans, released in Summer 2023 in digital, Vinyl, and CD formats by Make Me Happy Records (Europe & Rest) and Shelflife Records (CA/USA).

Youth Valley’s second release of 2026, the incendiary “pills,” is a ripping shoegaze anthem uninhibited by tropes and explosives. From the minute you press play, a gasoline tornado is lit, sending a ball of flames out of the speaker, burning the eyebrows of the listener, as they raise in shock and wonder at the cacophony of blistering tones and raw melodies. Youth Valley has never been one to dabble in the conventional, but “pills” might just be their most ambitious and individualistic release yet. The subdued yet palpable vocal performance barely creeps around the dense guitar riffs and heart-pounding percussion, giving it a ghostly feel as it aimlessly wanders through these spellbinding textures. Youth Valley is back in action, and “pills” is a beautiful introduction to the head-spinning adventures awaiting behind each of their songs.
