Oxyana Soundtrack by John McCauley and Jonny Fritz

Nashville songwriter Jonny Fritz has a new collaboration out today with Tribeca Film Fest “Best New Director” Sean Dunne. Dunne “has built his reputation on a series of short documentaries about unusual characters” including Stray Dawg about Jonny Fritz. Most recently, Dunne brought Fritz in to contribute the soundtrack for his first feature-length documentary, Oxyana. The film explores life in the small town of Oceana, West Virgina, known among its residents as “Oxyana” after OxyContin invaded the sleepy former mining town. Fritz, who grew up in a town of 2000 in rural Virginia, had told Dunne about the town and was brought in to contribute the soundtrack. Fritz in turn brought in his friend John McCauley (Deer Tick).

Set against the eerie backdrop of abandoned coal mines within the lush West Virginia landscape to the melody of Fritz and McCauley’s haunting score, Dunne’s unflinchingly intimate documentary probes the lives of Oceana’s afflicted.
