Last Night: Return of the E Street Band

Bruce Springsteen performed with the E Street Band last night for the first time since November 22, 2009 in front of about 60 audience members picked from his fan club at the Carousel House in Asbury Park, NJ. The short show was filmed for a web broadcast, the details of which will be announced next week according to Rolling Stone.

Bruce and his long-time backing band played ten songs from the recently released The Promise album before finishing the set off with Blue Christmas. Each tune was performed twice. Not all of the E Street Band was on stage last night as Nils Lofgren, Soozie Tyrell and Patti Scialfa were each absent making it more of the ’78 version of the group. In addition, a five-piece horn section and Jackson Browne sidekick David Lindley contributed to some tracks.

Here’s the setlist without the inclusion of repeats via BTX

1. Racing In the Street (1978)
2. Gotta Get That Feeling
3. Outside Looking In
4. Come On (Let’s Go Tonight)
5. One Way Street
6. Save My Love
7. The Brokenhearted
8. Ain’t Good Enough for You
9. Talk To Me
10. The Promise
11. Blue Christmas

While it’s a good sign for Springsteen fans that the E Street Band played together after such a long layoff and rumors that the ’09 tour would be the group’s last, there’s still no word on any additional performances.
