Furthur vs. Allman Brothers Band = March Madness Turf War in New York City

The Allman Brothers Band’s annual March Madness run has been a long-standing tradition in the Big Apple that has survived a venue change and Gregg Allman’s health issues to find the group back at the Beacon for eight shows in 2011. In the past, the Allmans didn’t have much competition but that won’t be the case next year as Furthur has just announced a Spring Tour that finds Bobby and Phil’s latest band performing less than two miles away at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square on four of the eight days of the ABB’s eight-show run at the Beacon.

All in all, Furthur will play eight shows in New York City in March – five at the Best Buy and three at Radio City Music Hall – on a lengthy tour that also includes a three-night stand at the Orpheum in Boston, the ensemble’s second visit to the Hampton Coliseum and five shows at Philadelphia’s Tower Theater. No word yet on when tickets go on sale.

  1. Geez…play the East Coast much?

I love both bands but seriously where is the jam bandlove for the midwest? Why is New York/PA/CT considered the “holy land” for jam bands? Just because they know a show has a better chance of selling out? Come on guys one show near Illinois/Ohio would’ve been great.

  2. @GratefulVince – heads love Upstate NY, VT and some of the urban areas. put it all together and you get a lovely mix of sold out shows filled with urbanPhans and the old school countryBumpkin phans. WE all get along, but the key is…

we keep showing up and we keep selling out.
