Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Vultures Moving In

We first fell in love with Nicole Atkins a few years back when the Neptune, NJ native joined the mighty My Morning Jacket on stage during their epic New Year’s Eve concert at Madison Square Garden for a pair of duets with Jim James. We were again reminded of our admiration for Ms. Atkins more recently, during her appearance at the Bob Dylan & The Band tribute at Le Possion Rogue where she tackled two tracks from The Basement Tapes.

Atkins, who in the past has described her sound as pop-noir, which translates to lush, sexy and mysterious sounding music that mixes elements of rock and the blues with Brill Building-era pop. Atkins, who split with Columbia Records earlier this year, will release her sophomore full length album, Mondo Amore, via Razor & Tie on January 25 of next year. Let’s check out the video for the album’s opening track, and lead single, entitled Vultures…

Nicole Atkins & The Black Sea will kick off their 19-date cross-country winter tour on February 9 with a gig a New York’s Bowery Ballroom.
