  1. love the feature Dan. love the LbL-Albany and the Hood via Columbus but you said,

“Seeing him play acoustic has always been fun, but nothing too special, but this tour changed all that.”

i love the HT and rarely disagree, but I totally disagree here.
Trey’s evolving TAB project isnt such a ‘project’ anymore. As TAB nears the end of its 12th year of touring, I must say more people are simply paying attention. I love peeps are finally paying attention, but really? “Nothing too special..(before this tour)”

Please HT’ers post some of the multitude of memorable Trey/TAB acoustic tunes we’ve heard since ’99.

cheers Dan on your effort, but those were pretty strong words about TAB’s previous acoustic quaLITY considering the totality of TAB’s acoustic quaNTITY.

  2. Nah, I stand by that. There is a real difference here. You need only go back to last summer’s Canyon Fire Benefit set from Mike and Trey to hear the difference in what Trey is doing. I’ve listened to that dozens of times and it’s neat and pleasant, but nothing compared to what he’s doing now in terms of song choices and actual acoustic guitar playing.

  3. I too love the feature but must respectivley disagree. Some of my fav moments are trey on the wood. Songs like back on the train when he first played acoustic made me feel like there were 3 guitars in the room. Yes he is playing Phish songs during this set but I would much rather have a mix of some of his more complex songs mixed in. I was in Albany and was AMAZED by Gululeh and buffalo bill. His patience and skill has always shown on the wood. Just look at the Inlaw Josie wales. That song is fantastic mellow and sounds as if there are multiple guitars in the room. Your words are a little strong plus being at shows this tour the whole fan sing along is a bit annoying. I pay to hear trey do his thing and NOT the drunk kid screaming the wrongs words to free or only yelling ou the chorus. For me I really wanted to hear trey not phish songs stripped down to the basic acoustic. Someone always has something negative to say about trey which is fair bc we all have opinions but come on to say he is better today than back in the day on the acoustic is nuts. dont get me wrong these acoustic sets are magical but not nearly as magical as 1999. Again Dan thank you so much for all you do and to HT in general it is the first site I check everyday and I love TAB even more than Phish Im sure I will catch hell for that but it is just fresher and the horns well they are blowin that sound.

  4. Find the debate, on the acoustic guitar playing, a bit strange as surely a guitarist who practices and plays for longer gets better…… The guitar playing skill is increased, with time, usually and so is the rapport that an artist builds with the listener. Sorry, I am new to this site but thought I would comment anyway…..
