moe. and String Cheese Incident Open Vaults

Two new archival releases surfaced on livedownloads.com yesterday including a compilation of unreleased live tracks from String Cheese Incident and a classic moe. show from 2000 picked by archivist Dr. Stan Lobitz.

With String Cheese Incident’s Winter Carnival set to go down next weekend, the band has dug deep into its vault for an 11-track compilation of unreleased live tracks called Frozen Cheese. This 90-minute set includes the group’s first-ever cover of Birdland featuring Jerry Douglas on dobro from February 20, 1999; a funky take on The Chicken featuring George Porter Jr. and Art Neville from February 21, 2000 and a pair of tracks from a 2002 Winter Carnival show that was never released as part of the LiveCheese series since that particular performance was filmed for the Waiting For The Snow To Fall DVD. MP3 downloads of Frozen Cheese will run you $4.99, while the lossless FLACs cost $6.99.

moe.’s two archival series, Warts and All and Dr. Stan’s Prescription, haven’t seen any additions in the past few years but quietly the band has been adding old shows picked by archivist Dr. Stan Lobitz to its LiveDownloads.com offerings. For the latest pick, Dr. Stan brings us a gem from “the Dither year” – 2000. This show from December 7, 2000 at The Odeon in Cleveland, OH features great versions of Dither tracks Captain America, In A Big Country, Tambourine and Faker as well a cover of Take The Money and Run by The Steve Miller Band. There’s also plenty of improv thanks to a 20-minute-plus Bring It Back Home, a fiesty Dr. Graffenberg > Linus and Lucy > Dr. Graffenberg and a cosmic take on Four. You can purchase the MP3s of this show for $9.95 or the FLACs for $14.95.
