HT Giveaway: Allman Brothers Band @ the Beacon – Last March Madness Show

We’re just two days away from the start of the Allman Brothers Band’s annual March Madness run at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. This year, over the course of just over two weeks, the band will play 13 shows that we’re sure will be filled with special guests and surprises galore.

For the past two March Madness runs, the Allmans have teamed up with Moogis to offer high-quality webcasts of each show and that relationship will continue in 2011 as Moogis subscribers will be able to watch all 13 performances live from the Beacon. Unlike past years, you can purchase a “One Night Stand” subscription and stream one of the shows for $25 – except for the March 12th 40th Anniversary of one of the shows recorded for the legendary At Fillmore East album, that night will run you $60. Head over to Moogis.com or the MSG hub for a free preview.

On March 26, the Allman Brothers Band will play the last of the 13 March Madness gigs at the Beacon. As part of our Everybody Wins When We Plug Something And In Return They Offer Us Free Shit To Give Away program, we’ve got a pair of tickets to this year’s finale for a lucky reader. To enter, simply leave a comment below telling us what musician you’d like to see the Allmans welcome to the stage this run. Those found entering more than once will be tarred and feathered. All entries must be received by Thursday, March 17th, at 11:59PM EST. We’ll pick the winner randomly shortly thereafter. Follow @MSGNYC for more contests and giveaways.

A few rules…

  • To enter the contest, leave a comment below telling us which musician you’d like to see sit in with the ABB
  • Your comment(s) must be left by 11:59 PM EST on March 17th
  • Anybody found entering more than once will be disqualified, tarred and feathered

  1. Phil Lesh on the 24th before the back half of Furthur’s own mini NYC residency.

Would love to see him on Elizabeth Reed ala Tal Wilkenfeld at the 2008 Christmas Jam show. Plus who couldn’t go for a few choice GD covers to mix things up a bit.

  2. Think it would be cool to bring in a different type of instrument to the mix that will play well off the electric and the Hammond. An artist like Tim Carbone from Railroad Earth or Allie Krall from Cornmeal or even both. These two are very dynamic in the way they play their fiddles and have been known to bring the heat when they play together with electric.

  3. The standard answer is Scott Metzger, I think he’d be OK in the 3-guitar mix. I’ll go with that.

  4. If I could choose between two different people they would be John Frusciante or Al Di Meola. I would love to see how Warren and Derek feed off of either of these guys, especially since their styles are so different. The interplay would just be unbelievable.

  5. Obviously, I’d love a Big Red Reprise.

That being said, I would love to see Soulive return some love to Derek Trucks.
That’s right, in light of the massive amount of Boulive guests, I am hoping for a Soulive sit-in with ABB.

  6. It would be good to see Eric Clapton join the band for some blues numbers and Derek and the Dominoes tunes once again.

  7. I would like Jimmy Herring that would be great bust out a few Widespread tunes and maybe a crazy cover.

  8. It would be great to see Steve Winwood join the band for some covers of Blind Faith, the Spencer Davis Group and Traffic.

  9. Gregg will be sharing some Dates with Steve Miller on his upcoming solo tour. Maybe Steve will return he Favor during this Run. Also to note Grace Potter is in NYC during the Run, also Joe Bonamassa will be nearby too. Those were Guesses… I would Like to See Jeff Beck sit in.

  10. Dickey Betts but if he is not available, Jake Crawford from Olathe, the 16 year old guitar phenom!

  11. Grace Potter Phil Lesh Trey Anastasio Eric Clapton David Nelson Mike Gordon
BB King Jackie Green Larry Campbell Barry Sless Bob Wier Bill Kreutzmann
Any of these players would be fun!

  12. Dicky Betts…family reunions are always a little awkward haha but that would be sweet. Maybe a little George Porter Jr too would be cool

  13. There are so many great to choose from. I’ll request a guest by instrument:

    guitar: jack pearson
drums: chad smith (has sat in with dickey betts before)
    bass: victor wooten
    keys: chuck leavell
    sax: branford marsalis
    singer: ruthie foster

  14. So many to choose from, I would love to see Jim James from MMJ play with the Allmans or Keith Richards!

  15. Grace Potter & Catherine Popper from The Nocturnals!!! my heart is bleeding for you to come play the Beacon Theater, please.

  16. Dr John! He played @ Wanee last year .. but not onstage w/ the ABB. He features prominently on Gregg Allman’s Low Country Blues– they are old pals, so, yeah, time for Dr. John sit-in.

  17. I always love it when Chuck Leavell sits in with the Brothers. You know you’re gonna get a great setlist of classic tunes with that outstanding piano interplay! There is no “Jessica” like a Chuck Leavell “Jessica”!!!!! A lot of surprise guests can bring the flow of a show to a screaching halt. Not so with Chuck – the improvisation just gets turned up a few notches!

  18. So many wonderful musicians have performed with the Allmans over the years’. I’d love to see Zac Brown do a
few tunes with them @ the Beacon, that boy can play.

He’s a relatively new artist from a different genre, but I think they would mesh nicely.

  19. Totally unlikely, but it would be cool to see Dicky come out and jam with the boys like old times. Otherwise, I know that a little-known guitarist named Jeff Beck is going to be in town very soon. That would be interesting.
