Stormy Mondays: Rhythm & Soul Review

The Stormy Monday Rhythm and Soul Review opens with James Brown from 1971, Brother Rap > Ain’t It Funky Now, including a great solo from Fred Wesley. Next up is Taj Mahal with Ain’t That A Lot of Love and the free sample of the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Bound for Glory. With that release and Warren’s, there’s a whole lot of soul pouring out of Allmans camp. Actually that would make for a real nice double bill this summer…

Rolling back to the late ’60s, we turn to Santana for a slick organ groove, Chunk A Funk, and then it’s time to pay tribute to Melvin Sparks who passed away last week. Many, many people of a certain generation gained their education in Sparks through Soulive back at the turn of the century, so it seems only fitting that we hit a recording of Melvin and the trio working out on Fire Eater in the fall of 1999. And to finish things out, Britain’s James Taylor Quartet throw down on a great version of the Theme from Starsky and Hutch. Get ready to dance, and as always, enjoy!
