Last Friday, a poisonous snake escaped from the Bronx Zoo Reptile House and as of press time continues to elude zookeepers. Over the past five days the missing Egyptian cobra has become a star spawning a 100K+ follower Twitter feed and has even received an offer for an endorsement deal. What’s the appeal? Perhaps there’s something about breaking “the chains” holding us back that strikes a chord with all of us. We wanted to honor the Bronx Zoo Cobra by making a mix for the freedom-seeking reptile.
Since we think the snake’s escape was premeditated, we’ll start the mix with a song it might have sung to the other residents of the Reptile House on Friday morning – Thin Lizzy’s Jailbreak. What better soundtrack for the cobra’s daring escape than Whitesnake’s Here I Go Again? Once the snake got out we could hear Freedom Overspill by Steve Winwood playing in his head. As with many “inmates” who just got released, we’re sure making love was one of the first task on the cobra’s to-do list. Hopefully it was careful so there won’t be Baby Snakes running around NYC.
As much as everyone is embracing the cobra’s plight, let’s not forget it’s venomous – that snake is Poison. If you run into the reptile on the streets heed MC Hammer’s warning – Can’t Touch This. If you ever got bit, there’s no doubt you’d hesitate to engage it again because as Great White tells us Once Bitten, Twice Shy. Our mix finishes with My Morning Jacket’s jam-heavy ode to the Cobra and moe.’s tribute to New York City – a city the snake has been getting much more familiar with since Friday.

I’m Cobra Commander and I approve this message.
I love the sexy slither of a woman snake.
