Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Steve’s Seasick-ness

While most people pushing 70 years old are normally winding down their careers with an eye on retirement, there aren’t many, if any, that managed to just get started in their twilight years. The exception may be Seasick Steve, who over the last five years has become a bit of a cult figure over in the U.K. Born Steven Wold in Oakland, CA in 1941, Wold has been been in and out of the music world since the early 1960s as a performer, session musician, recording engineer and producer, but it wasn’t until 2004 that the blues musician finally decided to record an album of his own.

Looking like a hobo that stepped right off a boxcar and playing an odd array of customized instruments, Seasick Steve got his big break after appearing on Jools Holland’s Annual Hootnanny on New Year’s Eve 2006, which landed him more UK festival appearances in 2007 than any other artists. Wold, who has garnered numerous accolades and awards from the British press, will look to get some notice in the U.S. with release his sixth studio You Can’t Teach An Old Dog New Tricks, which hits stores on May 30 via Jack White’s Third Man Records. Let’s check out the music video for the record’s opening track…

Seasick Steve will play a handful of overseas festivals this summer including the Isle Of Wight on June 11 and the Larmer Tree Fest on June 17.
