For those of you that took a break from the internet over the long holiday weekend, on Friday night the music world lost one of it unsung innovators as  Gil Scott-Heron passed away at the age of 62. Scott-Heron combined his socio-political spoken word poetry with jazz and R&B music, helping to plant the seeds for the birth of hip-hop with his 1970 debut about  Small Talk At 125th & Lenox.
