Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Warren Haynes Solo

Last weekend, HT fave Warren Haynes found himself with some extra time on his hands before he was set to perform with the Warren Haynes Band at High Sierra, so he lived up to his “hardest working man in the scene” title by stopping at the Lagunitas Brewery in Petaluma, CA on Friday night for a six-song set in front of a few hundred lucky fans.

Haynes opens up with Old Friend off the Allman Brothers Band album Hittin’ The Note and continues with the title track from his recent “soul” album Man In Motion. These stripped down solo renditions really show off the power of Warren’s voice and his songwriting prowess. Two more Man In Motion tunes, River’s Gonna Rise and Sick of My Shadow follow, before Haynes reaches for a staple of the Gov’t Mule repertoire in Railroad Boy and his signature song – Soulshine.

In other Warren news, the guitarist recorded a sizzling version of Peter Frampton’s Do You Feel Like We Do? along with Danny Louis, Ron Johnson and Shawn Pelton in tribute to the 35th anniversary of Frampton Comes Alive. You can hear the results on Frampton’s Facebook page.

  1. How did anybody hear about this? Was it just the lucky regulars who got the unexpected show? I really wish I had known, cause I woulda walked from Fairfax to see him!!

  2. This was a Sonoma Co. KRUSH radio show, you had to be listening and then go line up at the radio station to get 2 tix per household. Very special radio station, and a very special show. I was lucky enough to attend.
