Stormy Mondays: A Favorite GD First Set

Since Furthur began their summer tour with a gig at All Good and a pair shows in New York state, it seems like the perfect time to offer up a favorite first set from the Grateful Dead catalog: June 15, 1990 at Shoreline.

Brent’s final year with the band is loaded with extremely strong performances, from single songs to suites to sets to whole shows, and this California run is no exception. I especially love Phil’s playing on the opening Help on the Way, bouncing and aggressive. It’s the opposite end of the spectrum, but it’s right up there the 8/13/75 intro. The set also includes a top notch version of Just a Little Light and a brilliant Desolation Row, with Garcia belting out the last line alongside Weir. Just great, great Grateful Dead for a sunny afternoon. As always, enjoy!
