New moe. Album: WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LA LAs

HT faves moe. are set for a big year in 2012 that will start with the release of WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LA LAs, a new studio album due on Jan. 24. For the first time since 1998’s Tin Cans & Car Tires, the jam stalwarts have teamed up with an outside producer and label in working with John Travis (Kid Rock, Social Distortion, No Doubt) and Sugar Hill Records to create their tenth studio album.

In a statement, guitarist Chuck Garvey explains why the time is right to return to a label, “For most of our career we’ve done everything on our own in a very cottage industry, home-y kind of way. With most of our recordings, we’ve gotten the equipment together, we’ve paid for everything ourselves, we’ve produced it ourselves and we’ve had complete control over it. For this album we actually made the leap of putting ourselves in someone else’s hands to help us come out with something different.” WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LA LAs contains 10 tracks, most of which should be familiar to moe. fans as they’ve been road tested for years.

By going with Sugar Hill, moe. is partnering with a company very familiar with their work and artistic vision. “I first saw moe. in the summer of 1997, and have been a fan ever since,” says Stephen Brower, Sugar Hill’s Senior Vice President, Marketing / A&R Development. “What they have accomplished in two decades is impressive. Their independent success is the envy of most independent bands, and the fiercely loyal fanbase they have cultivated is certainly a testament to that. As a band that prizes technical craft, songwriting, and the live music experience — all traits long associated with our label – it’s very exciting to welcome them into the Sugar Hill family.” You can pre-order WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LA LAs starting at 2PM ET today via the band’s Spin Shop, where options include digital downloads, vinyl and deluxe edition double CD that features acoustic versions of each song on the album.
