John Cale Solo Tour On The Way

John Cale has completed a new solo album – his 22nd – and will support it with a North American tour, following his ongoing European run.

The disc, blackAcetate, was recorded in Los Angeles with Cale playing most of the instruments – including lead and backing vocals, viola, guitars, piano and keyboards – himself. He co-produced the album with Herb Graham Jr., who helped out on drums, bass and keyboards.

The album will be released October 3 on EMI and Astralwerks.

According to Cale’s Web site, inspiration for the new songs came from “Dre and Pharrell, Erykah Badu, Gorillaz and Doves then back to Curtis Mayfield and beyond.”

Cale is currently making his way through Europe with the same three-piece backing band that earned him rave reviews at Los Angeles’ Sunset Junction festival August 27. Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, the U.K., Portugal, France and Spain are all on the itinerary for the coming weeks.

The U.S. tour will run for at least three weeks, with shows currently spanning October 27 to November 20. Cale’s agent/manager, Nita Scott of P.O.W. Agency, told Pollstar more dates are forthcoming, including a New York City show.

Concerts already announced include the West Coast, Texas, Arkansas and a lengthy span of Canadian gigs. Cale & Co. will do three nights in a row at Toronto’s Lula Lounge in mid-November.
