Ominous Seapods Say So Long, For Now

Upstate New York jam band Ominous Seapods reunited on Saturday night at Valentine’s in Albany for what will be their last concert together for a while. Guitarist Dana Montieth is moving to Australia, which will make future reunions that much harder to put together.

Over the course of two lengthy sets and two encores, the ’90s jam favorites treated fans to material from throughout their decade-long career as well as a few choice covers including AC/DC’s It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘N’ Roll), Allen Toussaint’s Sneakin’ Sally Through The Alley and the fitting Down Under by Men At Work. Down Under was sandwiched in the middle of Your Life Has Been Cancelled Due to Lack of Interest. Guitarist Todd Pasternack, who replaced Max Verna in 1998, sat in at numerous points during the show.

Drummer Vinnie Amico of moe. guested on The Pull From Adirondack Blue along with mando player Josh Himmelback. For the group’s first encore, they played another fitting tune – Am I Ever Going to See Your Face Again? by The Angels. The evening ended with a version of Ship featuring longtime Albany promoter Greg Bell on backing vocals. Taper Ed Guidry has shared his matrix recording of the performance on bt.etree.org.

  1. Yeah Greg Bell on backing vocals! That’s cool. In the world of perpetual scumbags that are concert promoters, Greg Bell is a straight up good guy.
