Collaborations For All @ Pony – moe. / Mule / Newton Crosby

The Gov’t Mule / moe. co-bill tour concludes tonight in Wallingford, Conn. after a pair of shows filled with collaborations between the two jam stalwarts in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Members of each band sat in with the other group at both shows, with last night’s performance even seeing moe. guitarist Al Schnier sit in with another act on the bill – former Blips act Newton Crosby.

As we reported, Friday’s gig was moved from from the outdoors Stone Pony SummerStage to the indoors Paramout Theater, while Satuday’s show remained outdoors. Friday saw Schnier guest with Mule on a cover of the Grateful Dead’s Loser, while moe. welcomed members of Warren Haynes’ group to the stage later in the evening during a three-song encore at the Paramount. Warren Haynes (guitar), Matt Abts (percussion) and Danny Louis (keys) sat in on moe.’s first version of After Midnight since the famed Tsunami Benefit at the Roseland on February 10, 2005 as well as a take on The Band’s Up On Cripple Creek and the moe. original Happy Hour Hero.

On Saturday, moe. opened the evening and  brought out Haynes for Chuck Garvey’s Shoot First. Later in the night, moe. percussionist Jim Loughlin sat in with Mule on Sco-Mule, while all five members of moe. came out during Mule’s encore for The Band’s The Weight. Everyone from moe., except for bassist Rob Derhak, stuck around for the Sugaree (Grateful Dead) finale. Newton Crosby closed the concert with a set indoors and welcomed Schnier for Slip Pass > Worst Day Ever.
